Responsive Web site debuts new standard in Web development

The Six/ten Corporation, a commercial real estate leader, has unveiled a mobile and browser compliant Web site, www.610corp.net. Developed by ePolk, the Web site uses Responsive Web Design, meaning the site adapts to the browser and allows universal delivery of content, regardless of the size of the accessing device. This makes it possible for users to view the same site with a mobile device or a desktop browser with the content adapting to the size of the screen.

The increasing use of mobile device Web browsers has created a previously unknown demand, as viewing and navigating a Web site on a handheld device could be cumbersome. The average Web site is too large for small screens, often resulting in an ineffective display. More sophisticated Web sites have two versions, one for traditional computers and one for mobile devices. Browsers are redirected to the secondary site when accessed with a small device, such as an iPhone.

“This new Responsive Design is easier to maintain,” said ePolk Web Developer Ariel Villanea, “there is no secondary site so updates take half the time.” Villanea continued, “Six/ten is a big advocate, even a catalyst for Winter Haven’s growing focus on technology” he explained , referring to Six/ten’s Inland Fiber and Data Center which houses the Florida Business Continuity Center and USFP’s Blue Sky East business incubator program, “a high tech Web site reflects that standard.”
